The Best Robot Vacuum For Pet Hair on Hardwood Floors

A quality robot vacuum can make a big difference in keeping allergens such as dust and pet hair under control. But not all models are created equal.

If you're looking to purchase an animal-friendly vacuum or simply a good robot to complement your existing vacuum, there's many alternatives.

1. Eufy RoboVac G30 Edge

The G30 Edge, the latest model from Eufy's budget-friendly series of robotic vacuum cleaners is the most up-to-date model. The G30 Edge is a shiny black vacuum cleaner, with rose gold and blue accents. It's like an iPhone. This model is easier-to-use than the previous models and comes with features such as BoostIQ which automatically boosts suction to ensure better cleaning of all surfaces. Smart navigation is used to avoid the repetition of the same area that are common when using bounce-navigation.

It does a good job picking up pet hair, crumbs and dust on hard floors, but falls behind the best robot vacuum mop combo for pet hair models when it comes to removing flour from carpet. In our tests, the G30 Edge missed 74% of the dust on hard floors and 26 percent on carpet which is a bit disappointing.

A feature that makes the G30 Edge stand out is its ability to map your home with a digital map within the app. This allows it to remember which rooms it has already cleaned and avoid returning to those areas which is a major problem with simpler robots that rely on the use of old-fashioned magnetic tape to mark off no-go zones.

The G30 Edge has other conveniences that include a 'Find My Robot' mode that plays an audible music until it's located and a directional pad that allows users to move the best robot mop for pet hair. It has an automatic return feature that can send the robot back to its charging station if the battery is low. This is a safety feature.

2. Neato Botvac D-Shape

The Neato Botvac D-Shape robotic is a powerful machine with a wide array of smart features. It cleans floors that are bare well, and can also climb on carpets with high piles fairly easily. The app also has advanced features such as boundary lines remote control access when the robot is in operation, and a variety of other options.

This model is the most recent in a long line of robots from Neato and features a unique "D" shape when seen from above. This design has several benefits, including better corner cleaning and a bigger dust bin than most other models. The D-shape also allows the robot to get under furniture more easily than robots that have a circular shape.

It isn't as good on carpets however, it is still superior than other robots in this price range. The Roomba i3+ EVO also does very well at moving between floor types and doesn't get hung over transitions in the way older models do. The dual multi-surface rubber brushes flex to adapt to different floorings and prevent getting caught in pet hair.

The i3+ EVO's obstacle avoidance isn't as strong as the other robots we tested, and it frequently ran into objects in our tests, such as handbags, shoes and pet toys before continuing its journey. It also had trouble dealing with coarse kosher salt, which it blew over and around instead of picking up.

The i3+ EVO is loaded with features that make it worth the cost over other Roomba models. These include an automatic emptying bin as well as advanced control via an app. It is possible to schedule cleaning and create custom routines. Its intelligent scheduling can suggest additional cleanings during peak allergy times in accordance with your routine. We tested it in a house with a mix of unfinished carpet and low-pile flooring and found it able to move and clean exceptionally well, including getting into corners. The vacuum does an excellent job of removing pet fur from carpeting. However it's not as powerful much power as our top choices.

However the Roborock S4 Max is better built, takes much less time to recharge than the Shark and comes with more automation and scheduling features, including support for no-go zones. We'd still recommend the Shark If you're looking for something cheaper or should you prefer to use your mobile phone to monitor and control your device instead of an actual remote.

5. Bissell SpinWave Dry and wet

It's hard to find a machine that combines vacuuming and mopping This one does it. The dual tank system of this robot allows it to mop or vacuum with the press of one button. In our tests it was able effortlessly switch between surfaces and was great at picking up pet fur from carpets and hardwood floors. It also has an edge-sweeping tool to remove cat hair from walls and baseboards.

This is a great option if you're looking for a model that's affordable and comes with additional features. It was able to negotiate obstacles with ease during our tests and can be controlled with an app or voice. It comes with a large trash bin to collect messes before they are full. The only issue is that it could take up to 166 minutes to finish its job however that's still much better than most other robots we've tested.

The front-facing camera of this robot allows you to track the cleanliness of your home's cleanliness through a map with an app. It's particularly helpful if you're looking for an item that you're looking for or your children spill glitter from your Christmas decorations all over your flooring. You can avoid lots of frustration by locating the missing item quickly. Furthermore, the fade-free lithium battery can last for up to 130 minutes on a single charge.

6. Roomba 694

The Roomba 694 is a stylish robot that delivers solid cleaning. It does a great job moving its self and can move under furniture without getting stuck. It's also a great choice for carpets and rugs with low pile. However, it could get caught in rug tassels, and may have trouble navigating tight spaces like corners. It also has difficulty picking up pet hair from all surfaces.

The 694 is better than the majority of its competitors despite its limited features. It scored a perfect 10 on our cereal carpet test, and passed our cat litter test with just a few fragments. It's not as effective on hardwood floors, however. The side brush can scatter large, clinging cereal bits instead of vacuuming them. It also had a tough time removing table salt from a bare floor, with lots of pieces sliding across the floor and beyond its reach.

It supports voice control via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant through an external device (sold separately). It identifies your cleaning habits and offers personalized schedules. Cliff Detect and a edge-sweeping tool ensure that it is able to get into areas that are difficult to reach, and Dirt Detect sensors alert the robot to heavily soiled spots. Its battery can last for around 60 minutes and comes with an automatic emptying of the dust bin. The pricier iRobot J7 is more sophisticated and is better on all surfaces. It also feels more robust and has a bigger dustbin that charges faster, and navigates obstacles like electrical cords with ease.
