iRobot Combo Review

Combo is iRobot’s first mop and vacuum robot. It's also one of the most stylish. The brushed aluminum top and iRobot Logo are more classy than the loud designs of rivals.

The iRobot Home application is used to guide and configure your robot. The app gathers usage data and maps of your home, which include furniture and obstacles. Maps and image data are only shared with iRobot in the event that you choose to opt-in.

It's a mop

The Combo Irobot Vacuum Mop is a very clever mopping robot that combines all the features of the excellent Roomba j7+ and adds an onboard water reservoir, a small mopping pad, and a handy robot arm that lifts and lowers the pad. It can complete a large amount of work in only 111 minutes, before it is power-depleted and returns to its base station to recharge.

The model with the combo also comes with the iRobot home app, so you can start and stop cleaning runs. It's also a stylish robot, with matte black plastic that doesn't show fingerprints or dust and an aluminum top piece that is brushed with the small irobot cleaner logo.

It does a great job of vacuuming and has no issue traversing large area rugs and transition strips between flooring surfaces. It's even able to capture fine dust that other robotic vacuums don't. It's not great in mowing. It's not able to completely eliminate dried milk stains, for example unless you send it out at least four or five times.

irobot vacuum and mop combo's dedicated Braava Jet M6 mopping robot, that is available in combination with the J7 Plus frequently for less than the combo Combo, fares much better in this and other difficult jobs. It can even clean up ketchup and wine that has spilled, though I'd advise against sending it after any kind of liquid that has a high sugar content.

It's an air vacuum

It's also among the more attractive robot vacuums with a smooth and sleek top piece that doesn't display dust and fingerprints as easily as the competition. The tiny water tank and dustbin are easy to open and close however they're not the most efficient in terms of capacity. The Combo j7+ also has the smarts you expect from iRobot, including map and obstacle avoidance maps that work reliably and quickly. But it's mopping arms that makes this a standout model in its category. It keeps the mop pad hidden in the top of the vacuum, however, when it spots the need to mop a surface it lowers the pad beneath and behind the robot. This is a huge upgrade over other robot vacuums that require users to manually remove the mop pad in order to mop hard floors and carpets or even turn the whole unit off to mop.

It's an electric charging station

When you're ready to charge your Combo irobot, just place it on the changing station and align its metal contacts to the ones on the base. The charging station is simple to set up and works well. During my tests it took just a few minutes to charge before it would make noise when finished. When the Combo iRobot is recharged, you can begin mapping runs in the app to help it better understand your home. The app allows you to mark certain objects as permanent obstacles, like lamp cords. You can also connect Alexa or Google Assistant to your robot so that you can use the voice commands to navigate around the house.

It's a smart device

Combo irobots vacuum cleaner rely on acoustic sensors and onboard cameras to determine the kind of floor they're cleaning, and also the objects that are in your home. This information is then combined with images taken by the robot's camera on board and maps of your home to create an individual plan to clean each room. It is smart enough to stay clear of your lamp cords, couches as well as other objects you would like to keep. As with all connected devices, there are concerns over the privacy of these data. However, iRobot claims that it will not sell customer information and no images are captured without the consent of the customer.
