How to Replace an new audi keys etron key (try Trademarketclassifieds) G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video, Charles the Humble Mechanic shows how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor is located near the transmission's edge just above the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via the grey wire T55/49 and then to the tachometer located on the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is located on the outside of the transmission, directly above the flywheel ring. This sensor sends signals through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then uses this information to control the boost, fuel, and timig. It also sends signals to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference to correlate with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu has to know when the crankshaft has reached TDC, and the location of the camshaft so that it can activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will throw the P00160 error, which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are out of sync, possibly indicating the chain is stretched or a jump link on the upper chain of timing. However, the error code won't appear on its own, without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It can be a bit difficult to test because there are various pins on the connector, and each one has different functions. The most effective method to test it is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. It should read approximately 1000 ohms when it is at full operation. If you're having issues with this sensor, look for evidence of oil or coolant in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, when accelerating from highway paytoll at a high speed, i noticed a huge reduction in power. It was like the engine had run out of gas. Or, my injectors were not firing. I took out the spark plugs this morning, 3 were drenched in gasoline and the fourth was dry. I put tissue over each injector hole, and when I start the engine without sparks, the 3 with gazoline jump right out. The 4th one stays closed. I tested the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55/30/55/48/55/14/55/48/ I got 0ohm. So i assume the problem is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset the PID with no success. The car is able to start when the G28 is unplugged and runs fine when it is connected, but still is experiencing intermittent misfires at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62), even when unplugged, still shows temperatures of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars when the actual pressure is 0.

I'm not sure what to do. I think I've ruled everything else out. But i am afraid I may have missed something. If anyone has any ideas please chime in! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump of the g28 gets a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style sender is the same as the G4 and both are used in the 80, 100 200, UrS and RS2 cars which is why you can easily locate one at a salvage yard or at a parts store. It is simple to test them - just put your DMM into resistance mode and test the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector's end facing upwards). They should be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU in our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY) engines must know the position and speed of the crankshaft to determine timing of fuel injectors, etc. It uses a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to achieve this. If either of these go badly, you will see codes on the diagnostic scanner which can cause the engine to shut down.

A failing G28 sensor could cause an inaccurate speed counter for the gearbox and a gearbox which shifts faster than normal, or a misfire in the gear. If you have any of these issues, it is likely that your sensor is failing and needs replacing. The good thing is that they are quite affordable and readily available, especially when you're looking at the Bosch model, like ours. Alternately, the GM version of this component is also a good option.

5. Tachometer

A malfunctioning engine speed sensor could be the reason behind a slew of issues with your car. It's an essential component of the audi key replacement cost's transmission because it communicates to the ECU about how the car's crankshaft is rotating. This sensor could cause the transmission to malfunction and other car components to be affected.

The G5 engine sensor is located at the outskirts of transmission, above the flywheel ring. It sends signals via gray wire to ECU pin T55/49. The ECU then uses and processes this signal to control the flow of fuel, timig and boost, and also sends it on to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can check the sensor for failure by checking continuity between it and the tachometer. You can also check continuity between ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection via pin T6a/1 (trace [79]) and between T6a/1 and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. You should observe approximately 1000 ohms resistance between these two points. This is a common feature across the Audi A1 keys 80-100-200-RS2 range, from the 1985 MC all the way up to the 1997 UrS An and 1995 RS2 DU So, you may find some good ones in wrecking yards.
